It's our "Sweet Sixteen" Season - come celebrate "BIRTHDAYS" with us on March 18!

Since Solano Winds is having a Year-Long celebration of our Sweet Sixteen Season, we must devote an evening to "Birthday" music!  On March 18, at the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts, we will do just that - play the music of composers who would be celebrating a "special" birthday sometime around this season.

The fun gets underway with "Happy Birthday Around the World", a medley of treatments of the "Happy Birthday" song from a variety of musical cultures.  The lively overture to "Poet and Peasant", arranged by Henry Fillmore (born 1881), precedes "Images: Homage to Debussy" (born 1862), written by Bay Area composer Michael Senturia.  A medley of hits by Elvis Presley (born 1935) is followed by "Minute Waltz", featuring our own Heather Handa on trumpet interpreting Chopin's (born 1810) masterpiece.  The first half closes with the rousing "Commando March" by Samuel Barber (born 1910).

The second half gets underway with the circus march "The Purple Pageant" by Karl King (born 1891).  Solano Winds then presents "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" by Franz Liszt (born 1811).  A medley of "Cole Porter Classics" (born 1891) is next, followed an original composition by Solano Winds member Clyde Vaiani, "Blazonry".  The program concludes with the exciting "Finale from Symphony in F Minor No. 4" by Peter Tchaikowsky (born 1840).

It promises to be a birthday party that you won't want to miss!
